When we think about what it takes to live healthy, having easy access to nutritious food is critical. Unfortunately, in Marion County, unhealthy food abounds while affordable, healthy options remain limited. For 17 percent of households, a lack of reliable access to healthy food hinders resident’s growth and development, and increases risk for obesity and challenges to health and well-being throughout life. This is especially true in under-resourced neighborhoods, where convenience stores and fast-food restaurants are widespread but major grocery stores are often scarce.
