Jr. Health and Safety Speaking (Ages 8-13 as of January 1)
  • Speech must be 2.5-3.5 minutes long
  • County winners will be eligible to participate in district contest           
  • County Winner will receive award and $50 camp scholarship or $25 cash
  • Second place will receive award and $30 camp scholarship or $15 cash
  • Third place will receive award and $20 camp scholarship or $10 cash
  • May use notes but should not read the speech
  • No visual aids may be used

 

Sr. Health and Safety Speaking (Ages 14-18 as of January 1)
  • Speech must be 4.0-5.5 minutes long
  • County Winners will be eligible to participate in district contest           
  • County Winner will receive award and $25 cash or $50 camp scholarship.*
  • Second place will receive award and $15 cash or $30 camp scholarship.*
  • Third place will receive award and $10 cash or $20 camp scholarship*
  • Notes permitted but not encouraged
  • No visual aids may be used

* Must be a Marion County 4-H Camp Counselor to receive a scholarship in Sr. Division.

 

Health and Safety Speaking Team Skit
  • Must consist of 2-5 current 4-H members (ages 8-18)
  • Time limit is 5–8 minutes long
  • Props may be used, but NO posters or printed materials will be permitted
  • Each member of the skit must have at least one minute of speaking time
  • All participants should be a part of gathering the research information for the talk
  • One team will be selected to participate in district contest
  • County Team Skit Winner will receive individual awards and $25 cash award for the team
  • Second place will receive individual awards and $15 cash award for the team
  • Notes permitted but not encouraged

 

“4-H Pledge” Category (Ages 8-11 as of January 1)
  • First-time speakers only
  • Recite the words of the 4-H pledge only
  • Notes discouraged
  • No props or visual aids may be used
  • Gold, silver, bronze rating, no placings
