2016 Marion County Quality Assurance

The Marion County Senior Fair Board has approved the following for Quality Assurance for 2016.  Read all of the following carefully!

  • There will be THREE general sessions offered in Marion County.
  • Elgin, River Valley and Ridgedale Vo-Ag instructors will also teach Quality Assurance during class time.  Any 4-H member who is in study hall during the time Quality Assurance is being taught can also participate if arrangements can be made.
  • Attendance at state certified/sponsored programs such as BEST, Pork Quality Assurance and State Poultry Training will qualify.
  • Attendance at Quality Assurance taught in other counties by a STATE CERTIFIED INSTRUCTOR ONLY (typically a current County Extension Educator, Vo-Ag Instructor or Senior Fair Board member) will qualify. Be sure to request pre-approval if unsure.
  • If you attend a session outside of Marion County, you MUST get a signed certificate/document of participation.  It is then your responsibility to get that to the Extension office by June 1.  We will already have the records for the Marion County sessions and the school sessions.
  • Only youth need attend Marion County Quality Assurance sessions.  Adults/guardians/assisting adults will no longer be required to attend with youth (effective 1/1/08).
  • All youth exhibiting breeding or market livestock must attend a Quality Assurance session if participating in the Marion County Fair.  This includes breeding sheep, market lambs, market hogs, dairy goats, meat goats, angora goats, pygmy goats, market goats, market dairy feeders, breeding dairy, breeding beef, market beef steers, market beef feeders, breeding chickens, market chickens, breeding ducks, market ducks, breeding turkeys, market turkeys, breeding other waterfowl, breeding rabbits and market rabbits.
  • If exhibitor does not attend a Quality Assurance session (and provide certificate/documents of participation if attended outside of Marion County), he/she may not show or sell.

TEST-OUT OPTION FOR YOUTH 12-14 (AS OF 1/1/2016) AND 15-18 (AS OF 1/1/2016)

Youth may take a state written Quality Assurance test instead of attending the traditional Quality Assurance sessions.  Each test will have 50 questions with youth passing if they get 35 or more correct.  There will be a large animal version and small animal version of the test for each age group (12-14 and 15-18).  Youth taking the test-out option will not have to attend a Quality Assurance session for up to three years or until they enter the next age group, whichever comes first.  Youth not passing the test will be required to attend a regular Quality Assurance session.
