Volunteer Application Screening Process
OSU Extension – Marion County
The Ohio State University Extension implemented the following volunteer selection process and procedure. All adult individuals, 18 years and older, who are not registered 4-H members working with (giving guidance, leadership, or direction to) a member of a vulnerable population (minors who are not their own children, elderly over the age of 65, or individuals with disabilities) must adhere to these selection procedures.
- Applicant will be given a position description.
-
Applicant then completes application form and returns it to the OSU Extension, Marion County office.
-
Office Associate sends out reference letter/form to reference people indicated on application. (We must receive at least two completed reference forms to keep in the volunteer’s personal file.)
-
Program staff calls applicant, schedules and conducts interview by phone or in person.
-
Applicant signs the volunteer STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR to be kept on file.
-
Volunteer must visit the security station on 1st level of Marion County Building, complete the fingerprint form (can be done by a swipe of drivers license) and submit to electronic fingerprint record check conducted by Marion County Sheriffs Office through the Bureau of Criminal Investigations (BCI) at a cost of $20.
-
Upon completion of a positive interview and BCI report, the volunteer is sent letter of acceptance and informed of upcoming educational and training opportunities. Reports that come back with a negative result are dealt with on an individual basis and a decision is made based on the time and severity of the violation.
- Application, results of BCI report, interview record, signed “Standards of Behavior,” reference forms and any other relative personal information are maintained in a secure file for three years after a volunteer leaves the program.
